Good Medical Practice in Action (www.gmc-uk.org/guidance/case_studies/index.asp) is a lively interactive ethics section of the UK General Medical Council’s website. The website was launched a year ago for medical students, doctors, and patients. Its aim is to communicate messages from the revised 2006 Good Medical Practice, a guide for professionalism among doctors in the United Kingdom, in a unique and engaging manner.
It sets the scene in a virtual patients’ waiting room, with a receptionist and four patients. By clicking on the receptionist you can watch any of the patient’s consultations and listen to the dialogue between them and their general practitioner. You can find out how ethically sound you are by deciding which of three options would best suit the situation. Precise information and guidance follows.
