Keeping up to date online
Online resources for evidence based medicine are increasingly used by doctors to inform clinical decisions. As the evidence behind clinical practice changes rapidly, and textbooks are often out of date, online resources should start to play more of a role in medical education. To find the best evidence based medicine sites, I searched for information on three common conditions encountered by junior doctors (atrial fibrillation, Clostridium difficile diarrhoea, and irritable bowel syndrome) and considered whether the sites were user friendly, were supportive of clinical decision making, and whether they provided further links to more detailed information.
NHS Evidence provides a free search engine that ranks results from credible medical sources.
