The time of year for medical students to move one place on in their studies has come around yet again. And, as every year, we welcome the new Alices in the first year and wave goodbye to the Mad Hatters who are graduating from the medical school tea party and heading straight for the realities of being a junior doctor.
A brand new academic year means a brand new recommended reading list. Lots of students will have downloaded music illegally, but there is a growing trend among medical students to download their textbooks in the same way. Medical texts have long been duplicated so that they can reach a wider audience—we wouldn’t have the Hippocratic Oath today if it weren’t for scholars and monks obsessively copying it out and circulating it.
