My first attraction was cardiothoracic surgery. However, on the overseas doctors training scheme, the first job I got was in orthopaedics and trauma. It was so exciting, and I have not looked back since.
There are problems with infrastructure and poor funding of hospitals, which are almost always government related. Poverty of the populace and the low level of literacy sometimes hamper the understanding of the patients. There is an enormous workload: the doctor-patient ratio is very low. Also, there are incessant power cuts and a poor water supply.
