Useful apps for interpreting electrocardiograms: ECG Guide
- By: Tom Lewis
ECG Guide is a concise, authoritative reference that contains detailed information on electrocardiograms. The “book” has essential information required to understand and interpret an electrocardiogram. The app is comprehensive, with sections including ventricular/atrial enlargement, assessment of ischaemia, approach to arrhythmia, heart block, and other abnormalities.
Each section covers a wide range of abnormalities with information on aetiology, diagnostic criteria, and well illustrated examples. The app has a multiple choice quiz function and more than 200 sample electrocardiograms. To develop rhythm identification skills, users are presented with a 12 lead electrocardiogram and asked to identify the abnormality.
The answer can be seen, although it is a flaw of the app that the abnormality is not highlighted on the electrocardiogram. Another drawback is the lack of a search function that would reduce time spent searching for information on a particular condition.
