Applying to study medicine in Europe can be an attractive alternative for applicants from the United Kingdom because courses are often taught in the English language, tuition fees are lower, and application deadlines are usually later than those for UK medical schools. However, before you apply to a European school, you should consider some important questions.
If you are intending to return to the UK to practise medicine after you graduate, you should check that the medical degree you are applying to is recognised by the General Medical Council.
The GMC only recognises qualifications from medical schools listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.1 It also has a list of medical schools whose qualifications are not acceptable, as well as medical schools whose qualifications are under investigation.2
