Elderly people make up about a fifth of the British population and present disproportionately to those engaged in health care. A relief then, that the charity Age Concern produces a variety of handbooks to aid health workers who are attempting to navigate the various issues surrounding this area of provision.
Caring for Ethnic Minority Elders is one such guide. The author, Yasmin AlibhaiBrown, is a research fellow at the Institute of Public Policy Research, and her book provides a well researched and easy to read text on a group of people bearing the double burden of old age and ethnicity.
There are sections on groups commonly omitted from other texts. Chapters on the Chinese and Vietnamese, as well as on the Jewish, Polish, and Turkish communities, are a welcome addition. Sections include historical and political backgrounds on all the groups mentioned,
