Cool to be kind

Do you think you're cool? Would you like to be? And what exactly would it mean? Quite clearly I'm not. Writing, almost by definition, is an un-hip activity, despite the best efforts of 1960s drug dropping beatniks to convince their groupies otherwise. In particular, to question the nature of cool is to reveal your own lack of it. Cool is something that not only cannot, but should not be defined. It is uncool to be too aware of how cool you are.
There's a great line in the film Backbeat. Paul McCartney is complaining that the bass player doesn't have any musical talent, that “he just stands there.” John Lennon responds deadpan, “Yes. But it's the way he stands there.”
