Why there is more to life than medicine

Talk to teaching hospital consultants, and most will tell you that you should be thinking of your career. Ask final year medical students and many will be planning their career. Speak to a large number of junior doctors and most will be hacked off with their career.
Out of my circle of friends from medical school, 5 have left medicine. Some for associated fields, like working for the BMJ. Some for totally different fields, like Fund Management. Why the disenchantment with medicine?
I qualified in 1997. I am 28, an SHO in Psychiatry in Bristol. My friends are out watching the football. I want to be with them. Instead I'm stuck with my text books, revising Psychoanalytic Theories of Development for an exam in three weeks time, after which it can all be forgotten. Until it's exam time again.
Don't listen to the voices. Beware those who say that what
