Nursing to medicine (and vice versa)

Ever thought of becoming a nurse? Nurses and doctors get to see what the other's job is really like, and many may think that it is a natural step for nurses to go on to study medicine. However, it is not that common, and I have heard of more medical students--and even one junior house officer--leaving medicine to go into nursing than qualified nurses moving the other way.
Training in medicine is not something to be undertaken lightly when you are already established in a different career. Finance (or lack of it) is a major factor. To survive for five years on student loans and an impressive overdraft is a feat enough when it is your first time at university, but it requires a bit more juggling if there are still debts from your first course or dependants to think about. I had to think long and hard before leaving
