New general practice opens in London for refugees and asylum seekers

A general practice called the Sanctuary, which caters exclusively for refugees and asylum seekers, was opened at the John Scott Health Centre in the London Borough of Hackney last month.
The practice, the first of its kind in London, was set up in a bid to cater for the growing population of refugees and asylum seekers in the area and to take pressure off local general practitioners (GPs).

Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North, who opened the Sanctuary, said: “Here in Hackney, we're leading the way in care for a very vulnerable group.”
She also commented: “We are also here today to recognise how much refugees and asylum seekers do for London and this country--generations of economic migrants coming to London is the reason that London is such a cosmopolitan city today.”
