Animated doctor to introduce medicine to children
For years, children have been entertained by the likes of Postman Pat, Bob the Builder, and Fireman Sam, but soon there will be a new kid--or rather doctor--on the block.
Doctor Dan and his team of animated instruments are the invention of two doctors with young children. These engaging medical characters helped the doctors win in the health communications category at the Medical Futures Innovation Awards 2003.
Doctor Dan is helped by Sally Stethoscope, Beep the Thermometer, Tommy the Torch, and Wink the Eye Chart. So far, 10 story lines have been written for him, which his inventors hope will soon be turned into a television series.
Eoin O'Sullivan, an ophthalmologist in London, and his sister-in-law Veronica Kinsler, a paediatrician at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, devised the cartoon after realising that there are no animated medical characters on British television.
