Medical Student Global Gathering: a week by the lake in August, anyone?

From 3 to 9 August, the Macedonian Medical Students'; Association is hosting the IFMSA General Assembly. Five hundred medical students from up to 90 countries will spend a week by Lake Ohrid (www.ifmsa.org/meetings).
As well as the usual wide range of activities, students will have the opportunity to learn more about this meeting';s theme-violence and health. Topics include detecting and preventing abuse in your patients, the challenges of working in conflict zones, and international efforts to reduce global violence.
“Every year violence leads to approximately 1.6 million deaths. Violence is among the leading causes of death for people aged 15-44 years, accounting for 14% of deaths among males and 7% of deaths among females. The death and disability caused by violence make it one of the leading public health issues of our time,” says Lee Jong-Wook, director general of the World Health Organization (www.who.int/violence_injury_prevention).
