PUZZLE: GIANT CELL ARTERITIS

The eggs contain symptoms of, or words associated with, giant cell arteritis (GCA). Unscramble the anagram in egg 1 to solve its clue. There will be one extra letter you don't use, which you have to take over to egg 2 to solve that clue, and so on. You will be left with an extra letter after solving the final egg. What is it?
