Medics worldwide: news and opportunities from the IFMSA

Israel welcomes Palestinian membership - At the March meeting of the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA), IFMSA-Palestine became a member for the first time. Representing about 300 students at Palestine's only medical faculty, at Al-Quds University, Jerusalem, IFMSA-Palestine runs many projects which contribute to the health and wellbeing of their community. Membership of the international family of IFMSA was a long time dream of Anas Eid, president of IFMSA-Palestine. Most moving of all, the Federation of Israeli Medical Students spoke to pledge their support. The moment at which the Palestinian and Israeli medical students stood and embraced to the applause of students representing more than 70 other countries is one that will stick in the mind.
IFMSA goes fair trade - The recent meeting in Turkey also saw IFMSA adopt a policy on ethical consumerism. The move was inspired by the Make Poverty History campaign, which was promoted
