Medics worldwide: news and opportunities from the IFMSA

Medical students from 65 countries gathered in Chile — In March, 520 international medical students met during the 55th International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) General Assembly meeting in Pucon, Chile, hosted by students from IFMSA-Chile. The theme of the meeting was to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, and there were various workshops and roundtable events that raised awareness of the first United Nations Millennium Development Goal. The role of medical students in poverty and hunger eradication was also discussed. During the pre-General Assembly events, international training workshops on global health education and malaria were held in Santiago. A medical school supplies' and toys' collection helped several IFMSA projects—the Palestinian Refugee Camp in Beirut, Lebanon; the ReCap project in Palestine; the Teddy Bear Project in Brazil; and the Refugee Camp Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
